I taught kindergarten in Gamboa from '68 to '71 and then kg and 4th at Balboa until about 1982. I then taught social studies at Curundu for 4 or 5 years. My name was Nancy Beldus until 1979. You might know me from the swim team I helped coach at Curundu and Los Rios...and Clayton and Paraiso. I recognize a few names of ex-students. I am retired now and live in Colorado. Yesterday The Great American Pacific Sportsmens' Association was evicted from the building they occupied on the east side of Miraflores Locks from where they served the community since 1968. It seems that the present administration of the Panama Canal is hunting down anything that might smell of the Canal Zone&killing it.

I am the self-appointed Chairman of the Lost and Found for the Cristobal High School Class of 1977 -- 20 Year Reunion. I am seeking some 30 MIAs.
Since September 28th I have been committedly and aggressively seeking all members of my class.
While I was not one, many military dependent children, who otherwise fall through the cracks, are being unearthed by my search and will be joining the CHS Class of 1977 for our celebration.
I am interested in unearthing others who attended Curundu Jr. High from 1970-1975. And who might have attended either CHS or BHS from 1974-1982. Caught your home page off alta vista; I am an author and I think I might have run into you at Balboa or Curundu. I attended CJHS in 1969-1970, then Balboa for 10th grade (and not only had Mr. Woodruff, but went out with his daughter Largo). Life's along story, but my first two books were bestsellers about Washington, DC politics; Hill Rat in 1992 and Below the Beltway in 1996. The next two are novels and the first one is set in the Zone. Anyhow, the Zone was the ultimate. I also lived on the Atlantic side in 1974-75 at Fort Gulick, and a third tour of sorts at the US Embassy later in life. Great home page and keep up the writing on the Zone; it's good stuff.
