Great site....brings back a lot of fond memories. Lived on the Pacific side in 1970, then my father was transfered to the Atlantic side. Went to CHS in 71&72 left the end of my Junior year to return to the States.

Stationed at Howard 64-66 as Air Commando, Hung with Joe Debona, Peggy Acker, E.J. Breman Bill Page Joann Buttleman and Cho Lemoye. One of our buds had a cement block house on the beach near Rio Hato, Where we had the 1st Annual Surfing championships, Damn near drowned on the rocks. Floated the Chagres to Gatun lake during a survival school stint, Really miss the big woods. Spent many an hour dancing to the organ at the Hilton(?) and in the streets at Carnival. Beer in Balboa never tasted so cool and fresh, Crystal? enough bye....

Great page Matt! I graduated from B.H.S. in 1984, incidentally
the best graduating class on the isthmus! Those of you wondering

I have been enjoying reading the entries and have even contacted a few old friends by "magic-mail". Wonderful to have a web page devoted to such a large part of my life.
Those of you looking for genuine Panamanian beer can find it at better liqour stores on the west coast, site of the current "Paradise".
I am hoping to get in touch with some of my Panamanian friends, a few are: Jorge Quijano, who was my last boss at Miraflores Locks. He was an industrial engineer at the time, but may be doing bigger and better things now.
A few other old pals are Alfred Chase, one of my accomplices in a number of misadventures and Bill Benny who assisted me in the demise of quite a few Cerveza Cristal quarts in the maids room. (In the absence of the maid, of course.)
I will be back in Panama briefly in January while on a cruise and I hope to see a few of my old companions while there.
Might as well name a few other old friends I would be glad to get in touch with: Jeannette Morales (Oliver), Lisa Andrews, Larry Gramlich, Jimmy Slover, the list goes on. I should not get too greedy at this point. Hopefully some of these people are "connected".

My brother Jim Wilson sent me the web address. He was BHS class of 62 and I was BHS Class of 65.
Thanks for the interesting site. I graduated from BHS in '65 and my brother Jim Wilson in '62. Out parents were Ray and Gene Wilson in Balboa. Dad working in the Engineering Division and Mom was a secretary in the Admin Building. Both have recently passed away and I have spent weeks sorking tons of old Panama and CZ stuff - from blueprints, to emplyee handbooks from 1940. Our parents went to the Zone in Nov.1940 and retired in 1973.

I went to the BHS class of '72 earlier this month in Orlando
and it was really great to see all who attended! It was the
first time I had seen anyone in 25 years. My family left
the Zone in Aug of '72 after living in Curundu and Ft.

BHS Class of 77. Just missed the 20 year reunion due to scheduling conflicts. I am happily living in Baltimore, MD. I work as an Insurance Agent. In my spare time I breed and show Maine Coon Cats under the cattery name Taelcat and also own an American Shorthair named Sam. I'm proud to say that Sam was 3rd Best Cat in the Country in ACFA this past show season.

BHS '64, born and raised in Zone. Folks opened their home to "kids" '57-'77 and 5,000 passed thru&B's& or Beldens during that time. Mrs. B died in '85 and Mr. B's still taking care of "kids" at 81 though he now is in an assisted living place in Dothan, AL. If you, or anyone you know, passed thru or hung out at&B's& in Ancon, please drop a note to me and I'll pass it along to dad - he'd like to know what happened to each of his "kids". He was there for you then, please be there for him now - he could use the fond memories.

Really enjoyed the brown-eyed girl story...it brought back some memories of my first love....really brought back memories when you mentioned the Pan Canal truck that was busted in the carnival parade. Was that in 1970? I jumped up on that truck, only to find we were being busted about 2 minutes later. I shot a roll of film and even took some down in the carcel, but was stopped by one of the guads, who said he would take my camera the next time I tried to take a picture (had the camera under my shirt, with the lens poking out between the buttons). I can't believe they actually let me keep it. Being new to the Zone, (got there in Oct 69) I didn't know jack about Carnival, guads, etc, nor did I know many people then. Who else was on that truck?

This may qualify me as the oldest signee on the guestbook.I'm Cristobal HS '46 and CZJC '49, and I don't seem to see many with those dates. Of course, you can guess how I heard about the Zonelink -- no secrets there. We were active in Scouting, Theatre Guild, Audubon Society, etc. When you lived in the Zone from 1944 to 1976 you had a chance to try a lot of things that bewilder Statesiders. Makes for great party conversation!
