I lived in Panama when I was age 10 to 14. That was years 60-64. It was beautiful then. My dad was in the Embassy so we lived in Paitilla not the zone, but boy do I remember the zone. Currundu, Albrook, Ft. Clayton, Ft.Amador and Balboa . To this day, I still have a hankerin for fried Corvina. But everything that has a beginning must someday end. They can take away everything but my memories, and memories I have many. The Fidanquis and the Trebaldos will always have a place in my aging b raincells. As Bob Hope always said, "Thanks for the Memories".

Today, received an E-Mail concerning the BHS Plaque and what will happen to it after 1999. Yes, what will happen to it and what will we do to save it???? If my memory serves me right the Class of 57 paid for the plaque! We had it placed in the floor. It belongs to all who went to BHS!!! Remember what happen to the Balboa Commissary. It is gone as we knew it. Well, BHS will be gone as we knew it after 1999. Yes it will be the closing of super era in the old Canal Zone. Things will never be the same. The plaque has stood as a sentinel and a symbol of what it meant to go to the greatest high school in the Canal Zone. And to this Alumnus, the whole world. We the Alumni of BHS should find it a permanent home. What do you all thing? "Hasta la vista" I'll Be back.

Wow, where have 40 years gone. Hello to all my friends (especially the girls). Do yo remember the tropical nights at the old Tivoli Guest House. Chiva-chiva at midnight. Canal races at Miraflores. And to really go way...way back, catching the ferry to Cocoli for the West Bank crowd. A lot of water has spilled over Madden Dam since then. And for you scouts of Troop 13 looking for sea bats at night on old K-9 Road...They are all gone...finished. It seem we did a lot of great things at night back then. Remember the "horror Shows" at Diablo? Really tame stuff compared to the stuff we see on T.V. these days. But the class of BHS 57 was the best. We put the CANAL ZONE plaque in the floor. A fantastic idea! What will happen to it in 1999? Looking back all who lived in PANAMA are all winners. It is the Panama Experience. BHS 57 was great! The best Football Team. We knocked off everybody even the tough "Green Devils". That year we had the best looking cheer leaders too, I am proud to say. Spanish Classes were really cool! Happy Days in the Canal Zone with everybody dressing like the "the Fozz". So as I toast to you all with my last "Balboa", I only can say,"VIVA PANAMA". I am glad I was there at the Balboa Clubhouse, Pete's, the snake pit, and the days of the old Canal Zone. What a LIFE! Oops I have server that acts like a Chiva going down "J" street the wrong way. Great HOME PAGE!!! I guess from my classmates back then I was a great listener....still do. Slowed down some. But guess we all have to some extent. So before I ramble on into the next century, best regards to all. BHS 57 forever. Did you see the Russian spudnick. Those that did will remember when&where. Take care. It is almost unbearably nostalgic to read these messages and see how much everyone who has experienced the wonder of this lost paridise still revel in the outstanding memories we will always enjoy. I spent 10 years there, and graduated from CHS, '63...and '64! I can explain this, but won't here....I would love to hear from anyone who knows the Brenner's or Bath's....we lived in Coco Solo....and on quiet nights, I still hear the palms rustling in the trade winds, the rain falling outside the window...and the pounding of the surf at Shimmy Beach. What I wouldn't give for a ginup! This is a wonderful idea, and I'm hoping for great results....Thanks, Matt......will update w/ new email soon...
