Did anyone use the Freedom Bird from Atlanta, GA to Howard AFB lately?? Is it still flying. I should be in Panama for "that one last visit" about the middle of April.. Someone shoot me an e-mail if you have any info on that bird. Thanks.

My regards to all of my zonian friends!!! I will be visiting Panama and attending the last BHS graduation event...I can't believe how fast time has gone by!! I try to visit Panama along with my family once a year, and every year I visit the same places, Balboa, Administration Building, Ft. Amador, Los-Rios-Corozal(I grew up in Corozal) Albrook, Ft. Clayton, you name it!! Alot of places look the same while others have changed incredibly....but still nothing like home!!! What a trip back in time. I just spent the last few hours browsing and catching up on people I haven't thought about or heard anything about for years. For those whose families lost loved ones--my thoughts and prayers go out to you as I reflect back on my memories of two friends - Brent Trotter and Donnie Hughes... I also enjoyed seeing entries from classmates. I started to e-mail people I remembered and then realized I could be here all night. Instead, my hellos go out to Fred Sisneros, Kenneth Sener, Marlene Grier, Lulu Pulerm, Wayne Hughes, Gus Wanner, Paul Dolan (your entries are great!), Kirk Dobbins, David Millard, Mike Nazaranko (if he is ever found), Perry Rietz, Jon Bridges, the Curundu crowd, The Amador Teen Club crowd, the Chief Aptakisic crew and other friends and classmates from the classes of 1975, 76, 77 and 78. Since the class of '77 had such a great 20th reunion a few years ago, I am really looking forward to our 25th. If there are any classmates out there who didn't attend, please come to this reunion...it's amazing how quickly time goes and how much you remember when you see a familiar face. For those Zonians who live in the Tallahassee, Fl area--remember our picnic is coming up next weekend at the Old Bainbridge Park. Please e-mail me if you need more info. My parents, Edward and Solveig Albin, left the Canal around 1968 when my father retired from the fire dept. They both now have passed on. I was not able to find many pictures or items pertaining to our time in the Canal Zone. I'm always on the look out for such items. Thank you, and I'm glad I found this site.

I was in CZ from Fall of 61 to August 62. Lived in Panama City until June 62, joined US Air Force in August 62, to Germany until 66, went to work for IBM in 66 and retired from IBM in 98. Wha'ping, mon?? My sister (CJHS '74 - '76) sent me the address to this site. I see the names of several people I recognize from my short time in the Zone. When I logged onto this site yesterday, I had to search through some boxes in the basment to dig out my yearbooks from BHS.... Hard to believe BHS will graduate it's last class this May - wish I could go. If anyone knows from the class of '76 knows where Karen Clark (BHS '76) is , please let me know. Just wanted to say hello to everyone I knew from birth (at CocoSolo Hospital) until my untimely departure in 1983 when I left for boarding school in Pa. I would have gone to CHS, but I left Panama after my 4th grade year, in 1974. I lived in the military housing on the water, across from CHS from 1972-1974. Some of my friends were Mark & Steve Brannon, John Whipple, Brad Whiteside, Joe & Steve Kettinger. My baseball team was the Apaches. I was in love with a girl from Gold Row named Doreen Burns (although I'm not sure she new it). If any of this rings a bell to anyone, give me a shout.

Steve Jungman seems to have felt it necessary to apologize for his earlier comments about "loss of innocence" in Panama. C'mon, folks! Let's not get ridiculous. Times were different. Little harm came of it and perhaps some good. Knowledge, in all it's forms, is always good in some small way. We left with a loss of innocence in many ways. We saw incredible poverty side by side with great wealth and privelege. (Did I spell that correctly?) We were exposed to the realities of a completely different form of democracy. We were exposed to a completely different set of ideals, mores, cultures, etc. We came away wiser, I hope. That is the cost of knowledge.
