--Just a CYA repeat from the Lost Paradise Notice Board--
Albrook AFB brats circa 70-76 are trying to locate legendary Albrook Jets Little League Heavyweight Coach R.K. "Beech" Beauchamp. As best we can recollect, Coach Beauchamp was, at the time, a Major in the US Army stationed at either Clayton, Amador or Quarry Heights. Just to put the importance of this endeavor in perspective, under the leadership of Coach Beauchamp, the 1973 Albrook Jets Heavyweights were the first team ever to dethrone the Balboa Rams as league champions. Any information on the whereabouts of Coach Beauchamp (or any other lost Jets for that matter) would be greatly appreciated. Let us hope that history and the experiences of other cultures is repeatable. When the Americans left Subic Bay in the Phillipines, there were predictions that it would turn into a toilet. According to my numerous Phillipino friends and coworkers, the old military base has been transformed into a recreational, cultural and commercial center of superlative quality.

Don't mourn the loss of the old bases in the Zone. Wish Panama well in the new use of those places.

Cherish memories, but do not harbor resentment.

And stop all the BS about which side is the other side. According to Einstein, space is curved back upon itself, so each side is both sides.

Works for me.

Howard AFB is preparing to close in accordance with the implememtation of the Carter-Torrijos Treaty. The closure continues on track. All DOD facilities will be turned over to Panama NLT 31 December 1999. Experience has shown that many DOD facilities have reverted to Panama prior to the schedule date. God Bless all who read these tracks.

The jungle is moving in and the termites are letting go..........In other news: CNN Telvision took a film of the final BHS graduation. HERE IS THE DEAL.....THEY WILL NOT SHOW IT. SO MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL SIT DOWN AND WRITE A LETTER TO: Mr. Ted Turner, CNN News; 1 CNN Central, Atlanta, GA 30574. Ask him to show the film. If enough of us Zonians write, maybe we'll get this Big Corporation to show the film of the final BHS Graduation. This the story that spans a century. 1904 to 1999. What can be bigger than that! I lived in the Canal Zone from 1954 until 1961. I lost touch
with everyone there until a few years ago when, almost unin-
tentionally, I found someone from that magical time in my
life. Lives have a habit of moving along without any concern
for the players involved, however. I am pleased that person
is happy. I wish we had stayed in touch. Perhaps, someday...

Anyway, if anyone reads this and knew a kid named "Poke",
that kid is the 52 year old nut writing this tonight. Maybe
I can find some of the crazies that live in my memories. I
think of those days and am overwhelmed with memories of
people and places. I did not get to go to BHS. I was a
behaviour problem and was sent to a military school in
Virginia. I'm not too far from that today.

I have just returned from the place we call the Lost Paradise... I took the wife and kids so that they could experience the beauty of the country and the people that live there...they were not disappointed and neither was I...Things hav e changed (as I have also), but not decidedly for the worse... The Panamanians were very tolerant of me and my lack of knowledge of their language (I speek a little Spanish) and were very friendly and helpful, they are truly very beautiful people... We w ent to Summit Gardens (very pretty and clean and a better animal display than 20 years ago), Taboga, Gamboa, the causeway, El Valle, etc... We had a wonderful time and did not have any bad experiences (except when we decided to drive to Napoli's #2, the t raffic was terrible and we got lost even with a map! We ended up in Chorillo and passed by Napoli's #1 on the way out),(the food was EXCELLENT!) the best Ceviche we had was from the Chinese gardens just past Corozal and Cardenas on the way to Fort Clayton ...I suggest that anyone that is even thinking of what it is like today to just pack their bags and head on down! It was a very nice trip for my kids (ages 4 & 7) and we all had a good time... just an opinion, but I don't think that people should think ab out how it used to be (and dwell on it) because it is still a very nice and astounding place and it is well worth going back to... The memories kept flooding in as I was there and things have changed, but remember that the more things change the more they stay the same... As we were taking off from Tocomen to come home, there were tears in my eyes (and my wife's), mine were from remembering the last time I left Panama (with my dad by my side and remembering how little responsibility I had way back then) m y wife's from knowing she had just left one of the most beautiful and unique places on earth...

I have started scanning some of the many photos and slides I have of friends and CZ places such as Ft Clayton teen club, Kobbe beach, Observatory, several of the popular bands we danced to and teachers at Curundu JHS... just to name a few. I have started putting them on my homepage and will put a few new ones each weekend as I have a few moments to scan. All photos are between June 1969 and June 1971.
Does anyone remember "Uncle Bob" on SCN TV every afternoon? His photo is on my website. I have several photos of people I knew at SCN when I worked there. My ex was a radio announcer named Chuck McCann. He also was the "Midnight Skulker" on SCN radio. You are all welcome to see the old photos. I will try to update often. I have almost a hundred photos of people I knew back then. Your photo may be in there. As I get older I forget some names in the photos and would appreciate any help filling in the blanks.

Hi everyone, enjoying my retirement in Miami, I left Panama on 5 Mar 99 and will live in the USA for about 12-15 years, after that you'll find me retired retired in Coronado, Panama. If you can't find me there than you'll probably find me at Tits Point or Rio Mar Point enjoying the surf! I'm currently living with my brother Edwin until I settle down here in Miami.
