The S.S. Ancon on the first official Transit

The S.S. Cristobal pictured here is the indirect descendant of the S.S. Ancon pictured transiting
the cut. This ship was built in 1939 and named after its ancestor the S.S. Cristobal that was the
sister ship to the S.S. Ancon pictured above.
The S.S. Cristobal docked in Cristobal prior to her last voyage to the scrapyard in 1981 ending
133 years of US Government sponsored steamship service between Panama and the United States.
