I'm still trying to locate Victoria (Vicky) G. Bell. I met her while I was stationed in Panama from 72-76 with the 535th Engr Det (Power Barge Sturgis) at Ft Davis. She was divorced and had one son. What was the title of that song that started out "Wappen, Colon, Hola Panama" by a group called Supercampeones of something-or-other? (In fact, what was that group's name?) Also, do any of you Atlantic-siders remember the title of the Calypso, I think by Mighty Sparrow, where an old man, little boy and a donkey ride into a village and get criticized no matter how they configure it? My dad was stationed in the canal zone back in 1968 thru 1970. We lived at the 15th Naval Dist.,Summit radio station near Gamboa,Howard/Kobie AFB/AR base and wound up at Rodman Naval Station. I started baseball there playing for Spur Cola in Balboa and the Boy Scouts as well. I was in the 5th through 7th grades going to school at Howard/Kobie,Diablo Heights, and Gamboa elementary schools and then to Curundu JHS. I only remember a few people, Eugene Fenninger, Regina Riddle, Tommy Benoy and Ssgt. Wilber Cunningham. If anyone has contact with these people please notify me by e-mail. Thanks

During the course of family research I was allowed to copy a letter dated 1941 Cristobal CZ...This letter contained a picture of a small child named JoAnne Lopez. The letter was written by her mother Daisy Lopez. This letter was mailed to my great-grandmother... it stated that all documentation was in order to have the child registered as an American citizen. From the tone of the letter, it seems apparent that there was on-going communication between these two women. I will be happy to send e-mail of picture, letter, and envelope, and would be most greatful for any assistance in locating these ladies. My dad really wants to meet his sister. I am in search of anyone who served in Panama as part of the army motor pool between 1973-1974 with an Ralph or Raphael Melvin. Although I am a well well adjusted adult with a happly family and fulfilling career I have always sensed the need to know the half that I have never met. He was never aware that my mother was pregnant nor was he told and I have always thought that this was an unfair decision on the part of my mother but I also understood the reasons due to the times they lived in. Eventhough she is panamanian her color was dark and he was a caucasion soldier. I am not sure if the name is even right since my mothers' english is not all that clear and definintly not at all at that period in time. Hello every one , there you guys are! I did not when to your school ,nor I live in the Zone, but I'm from Panama . I when to your school sometimes because I wanted to meet you guys . My godfater owns a shoe shop right outside of the ymca, I when to the ymca(the pool ) to have american friends (I was just 12) but I never could . I was always curious where were you guys ? because Even when I walk home through the zone(as we call it) we never see you . Need help in locating anyone who knew or is related to a lady by the name of MARIA ROSLYN PACKER CAMPBELL or Mr. Cecil Oldfield. Mrs. Roslyn was of Jamaican descent. She was born in Colon and died in Panama City in 1986. Her husband Cecil Washington Oldfield died in Panama City in 2001. Hi,

Thank you to those of you who sent your condolences.

It has been such a shock to see that my dad passed so soon in his life that I didn't think to give more information about who he is so that he is easily identified by those of you who may have known him.

He was born in Brazil. June 13 1946
He has worked for the Panama Canal Commission since 1974 till now (Panama Canal Authorities). He worked at the Panama Canal Locks as a Tool & Die Maker all these years. He has worked at the Miraflores Locks, Pedro Miguel Locks, & Gatun Locks. There may have been others but I can't remember right now.

He was married to Alba Regina and has us three girls. Me, the oldest, Mileneel (66), Second Audrey Lee (68), and third Maria Estella (71). He also has a daughter, Christine (77).

His current wife/widow's name is Rose.

We have lived in Balboa, El Prado & Barnabey Street, from 74-81, then in Los Rios till 87. Then my dad, mom and little sister lived in Margarita till 1989. But he has continued living in Margarita till today with his wife Rose.

I hope this helps. It has been so hard for me to think clearly right now. I am trying to get my passport to go to Panama Tuesday for his funeral Wednesday but between my passport expiring 7 years ago, my birth certificate is from Brazil & since the law has changed after 9-11 I may not be able to get an immediate passport to make it to his funeral. I hope that with my American Naturalization papers, old passport, marriage license, SSN card, ID, and this being a family emergency will bypass the 2 - 10 weeks wait because of them having to do a background check before issuing me a passport.

My sisters already made arrangements to be there.

My family moved to the Zone in August 1969. We lived in temporary housing in Cocoli for 2 or 3 months then moved to Rodman Naval Base. I attended 6th grade at Howard Elementary School. My teacher's name was Mr. Fink. I went to Curundu Junior High for 7th-9th grade [1970-73]. I can't remember my 7th grade homeroom teacher's name but he was a crazy Spanish teacher on the top floor of A Building. My eighth grade homeroom was Mr. Wilkerson. He had a ping pong table in his room. My buddies and I would squeeze in a couple of games before it was time to run to first period. My 9th grade homeroom was Mr. Beldus and he was a real cool guy also. He used to run 4 miles on the track during his one hour break.
I also played football and ran track for Coach Stromberg. I remember when we beat Balboa JV in football in 1973. We also beat CHS JV twice that year. Coach Stromberg was a great coach and influence on my life.
Some of my buddies at Rodman where Brian Sabatini, Ricky Odom, David Marvel, and others whose names would come back to me with some thought. Those were wonderful days.

I went to Curundu 9th grade and 10-11th at BHS. Father was in service lived on Kobbe. I joined the army and helped close Quarry Heights down Dec 1997. Is there anyone out there that still lives in Panama. Is it better??? I sure miss that place.

Just blowin in from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was surfin the net checkin out all the devastation in our poor state, when I found myself surfin the Panama sites. Thank you Matt for keeping this wonderful site going for of us homesick puppies. Don't guess we'll ever get over having to leave the Canal Zone. Class of '72 friends- Karen and Ted Yost, as well as Karen's sisters families, Linda and Gladys, everyone survived Rita in good shape. I live in Baton Rouge and we were spared the devastation. Times are tough here, heart-breaking sad. So many beautiful towns just wiped off the earth- pray for Louisiana. Hello to my friends- heard from Priscilla Landrum today, she is happy and well. Please write any old friends reading this posting.
